Chinese Migrants' Sense of Belonging in Japan: Between Digital and Physical Spaces
About this article
This paper illustrates how the sense of belonging among migrants is constructed and modified by their interaction with both digital and physical spaces. Drawing on interviews with 55 Chinese migrants in Japan between 2017 and 2019, the paper demonstrates that their notion of belonging is not fixed, but can oscillate and fluctuate, sometimes in light of their ties with an imagined, transnational Chinese community.
